Mobile Phone Security for Activists and Agitators

While this zine is a good tool to help anarchists and other rebels think about mobile phone security, we think it has two shortcomings:

• It underestimates the risk posed by phone geolocation for certain threat models, and consequently offers inadequate recommendations.
• It contains weak technical recommendations on phone configuration for certain threat models (e.g., it recommends using F-Droid).

In our view, anarchists who carry out illegal direct actions for which they could face jail time, or who may have friends who carry out such actions, should consider leaving their phone at home at all times, and should follow up-to-date best practices on phone configuration (for this, see AnarSec).
